John Smith is Principal of Eagle Advisors, a strategy and perfomance consultancy.
He has advised a range of investors and companies, including Winnick & Co., Ares Capital, Arnold Magnetics, Enginetics
LLC, LHH, VNG.CO and Plasan Carbon Composites. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of American Axle &
Manufacturing and TI Fluid Systems. John served as Chairman of the Board of Covisint until its sale to OpenText in July 2017,
and was on the Board of CEVA Logistics until it was taken private in April 2019. John is a retired Group Vice President of General Motors, responsible for global product planning
and business development. He was extensively involved in GM's many alternative propulsion initiatives, and developed
the viability plans implemented subsequent to the company's bankruptcy in 2009. During
his career with General Motors, John planned and led the successful turnarounds of both Allison Transmission and Cadillac.
. .the latter turnaround recounted in the book Fin Tales: Saving Cadillac, America's
Luxury Icon (available in hard copy or Kindle, on Amazon). Earlier in his career, he led GM's European
and International Planning teams, developing profitable new markets in both Europe and Asia. John has been active in non-profit work, serving as Chairman of the Detroit-area United Way Torch Drive Campaign,
as President of the Detroit Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as Board Chairman for St.John's-Providence Health System
(now Ascension), and member of the board of the Detroit Institute of Arts. John and his wife Nancy have been involved
in medical, educational, orphan- and elder-care support and shelter programs in Haiti since the terrible earthquake in 2010.
They do this work through a 501(c)(3) called Jeremie Rising, which is the sole beneficiary of any donations in respect
of Fin Tales. Given his many non-profit
experiences, John welcomes the opportunity to assist non-profit boards in improving the effectiveness of their work.
